The assessment of the angiosperm quality element (Zostera noltei) for transitional water body (here, FRFT8 Bidassoa) considers the monitoring of 3 metrics: the taxinomic composition, the spatial bed extent and the abundance (percentage cover). In 2017, the angiosperm quality element for FRFT8 Bidassoa was “good” as in 2015 and 2016. This result is due to a better percentage of seagrass cover. However, the spatial extent of seagrass continuously change, with new colonized areas.

Assessment of the impact of a wastewater treatment process including Advanced Oxidation Technique on environment using chemical and biological indicators ArchiMer

This work aims to summarize the work carried out in the framework of surveys in subtidal environment on the French Basque coast in 2017. The course of this campaign is presented as well as the various data collected making it possible to establish a balance sheet. The latter refers to the fact that only one of the three targeted steps could be correctly sampled from a biological and ecological point of view. The analysis of the difficulties encountered during these investigations will make it possible to reframe the implementation of the protocol in order to best meet the objectives originally set during the 2018 sampling program.

Rocky intertidal habitats are particularly vulnerable to anthropogenic pressures especially in areas with high urban concentrations such as southeastern Bay of Biscay. This research aims to establish an assessment of the potential impact of sewage discharges on intertidal rocky benthic assemblages on macroalgae and on macrofauna as required by the European Directives (Water Framework Directive -WFD and Marine Strategy Framework Directive -MSFD). The assemblages were sampled at five locations according to a control-impact design. Biological data on glass eels (Anguilla anguilla) were collected during two successive sampling periods from November to March (1996-1997 and 1997-1998) on the Adour estuary. As for other estuaries, decrease in length (mean of 73.5 to 67.4 mm) and weight (mean of 3.5 to 2.6 dg) of glass eels were observed. Weight and length characteristics were used to identify groups of glass eels. These groups were well distinguished during the first sampling period but some overlaps appeared in the second one. Marine larval past of glass eel Anguilla anguilla migrating in the Adour estuary ArchiMer

Along biometric characteristics, glass eel otoliths were collected during three migration seasons, in the Adour estuary, during the new moon of January. Microstructure reading and measurements of various growth zones bring information on glass eel larval life during their oceanic migration and the transition phase in estuary. The results show significant inter-annual variations of glass eels otolithometric characteristics from the point of view of their typology as of the various growth zones measured during transoceanic migration. Since 2008, the parameter “macroalgae subtidales” is calculated on 3 stations of the water mass FRFC11 Basque coast. In the second cycle of WDF monitoring, complementary metrics are calculated as for the entire Channel / Atlantic facade. These metrics were measured for the second time in 2017 and aim to optimize the information collected to assess the ecological status of water bodies but also to characterize the functionality of the ecosystem. The calculation of the Ecological Quality Ratio (EQR) makes it possible to classify this water mass in “Good” as the previous campaigns with a tendency to improve the rating during the whole period.

Les foraminifères bio-indicateurs d'impact dans les environnements estuariens et portuaires ArchiMer

This work is based on about 2,000 samples. It provides a synthetic description of the distribution patterns of fûraminiferal assemblages in paralie environments and shows on two examples the effect of anthropogenic impacts. It shows that despite the great diversity of eeological parameters, foraminiferal assemblages are naturally distributeà along a fev/ major gradients. Anomalies in these distribution patterns or morphological abnormalities of the tests indicate anthropogenic or natural stresses.
